Original Content podcast: Were not impressed by Netflixs Extremely Wicked Ted Bundy movie

Despite its grandiose title, Netflix’s “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” turns out to be surprisingly forgettable. In this week’s episode of the Original Content podcast, we’re joined by Brian Heater to review the film, which features Zac Efron as serial killer Ted Bundy and Lily Collins as his initially unsuspecting girlfriend Liz Kendall. The film is ostensibly about their relationship, but director Joe Berlinger and screenwriter Michael Werwie can’t quite seem to commit — they end up dramatizing the broader story of Bundy’s capture and trials, while only intermittently returning to Kendall in the film’s second half. Bundy’s actual murders also get short shrift. While one might argue that we already know he’s a killer and don’t necessarily need …

Clients, mainly from Europe or the US, often pay thousands of pounds to take part in a hunt, and keep a “trophy” – usually the head or skin, or another body part. It’s a big business in some African countries. Critics describe it as a blood sport, but proponents say it helps raise vital money for conservation, especially for endangered species. ‘I hunt wild animals because I love them’ Trophy hunting ‘raises extinction risk’ Should trophy hunting be banned? Could rapist couple have been stopped?

Media playback is unsupported on your device Media captionVictims call for Barry rapist couple case review Questions over whether a couple jailed for a string of rapes on girls were part of a paedophile ring have led to calls for a serious case review. Husband and wife Peter and Avril Griffiths abused and raped multiple girls over decades in the seaside town of Barry in south Wales. Nazir Afzal, who prosecuted grooming gangs in Rochdale, said there should now be a review into the case. It follows the discovery a victim’s earlier complaint was not acted on. In October, a jury at Cardiff Crown Court heard how for years the couple had carried out a sustained campaign of rape and …

Being Single Doesnt Make Me Lonely

Holly Riordan Updated May 3, 2019 By Tonny Tran Being single doesn’t make me I’m allowed to have high standards. I’m allowed to turn down people who offer me less than I’m looking to hold. I would rather stay single than settle for someone below my standards. I would rather hold out for someone who meets my expectations than jump into the first relationship I can find. Being single doesn’t make me a late bloomer. There is no timeline when it comes to love. Everyone moves at their own pace. I’m not the friends of mine who are married with children. We’re simply at different points at our lives. We’re set to reach relationship milestones at different times. They’re not doing than …

Google employees demand Larry Page address walkout and retaliation

Google employees are still going strong and not letting up on their demands. Following a sit-in protesting retaliation last month, Googlers are making four demands. “Google seems to have lost its mooring, and trust between workers and the company is deeply broken,” Google walkout organizers wrote on Medium today. “As the company progresses from crisis to crisis, it is clear Google management is failing, along with HR. It’s time to put HR on a PIP (Performance Improvement Plan) and bring in someone we trust to supervise it. It’s time to escalate.” The first demand is for Google to meet the rest of the demands of the walkout. While Google did make some changes post-walkout, the company did not address all …

The One Breakup Every Girl Needs to Have

ShareTweetPinterest Most of us have been through bad relationships. You know the kind I’m talking about. It’s the kind of relationship that doesn’t inspire you to grow as a person but actually makes you feel less. It’s the kind of awful influence on your life that hurts you in the long run. You feel comfortable with it, so you keep it around, even though you know it’s killing you. You just can’t let go. You get to a point where you don’t even know how. This type of relationship cripples you, it changes you, and it even makes you where you don’t recognize yourself anymore. Why do we do this to ourselves?! The thing for me was that I knew …

Social media effect ‘tiny’ in teenagers

Past research on the relationship between screens, technology and children’s mental health has often been contradictory. Trivial effect Prof Andrew Przybylski and Amy Orben, from the Oxford Internet Institute at the University of Oxford, say it is often based on limited evidence which does not give the full picture. Their study concluded that most links between life satisfaction and social media use were “trivial”, accounting for less than 1% of a teenager’s wellbeing – and that the effect of social media was “not a one-way street”. Prof Przybylski, director of research at the institute, said: “99.75% of a person’s life satisfaction has nothing to do with their use of social media.” Tips on how to limit excessive screen time How …
