You know, I am one of those people who love technology. It does not intimidate me, it is fun and often makes my life easier. The problem is that sometimes old fashioned is the better way to go. This is true when dating. Too much technology when trying to connect with someone can actually hold you back. Old fashion dating today is alive and well… and I’m glad.
What can you do to bring a little more old fashion dating today into your life? Well, it really depends on you and your honey but in this article I’m going to go over some simple ideas of things to keep in mind so you can make sure that technology helps and not hurts your relationship.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
1. Your phone, pad, etc. needs to be kept away from a date. I can’t stress this enough and I can’t think of many things that are more rude than texting or checking your email during a date.
Once you are with your date and you are out together, who do you need to talk to anyway? Put the electronics away and concentrate on the most important person you should be concentrating on that minute… your date.
If you have kids at home you may need to keep the phone handy so you don’t miss a call, but you can sure put it on vibrate and ignore any call except for those that might really be emergency calls.
The commercials where the guy keeps checking his phone for the score to the game is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. Sure, in a commercial, it may be amusing but in real life is unforgivably rude and disrespectful to the person you are with.
If you truly care so little for your date, and their feelings, you shouldn’t be going out with them in the first place.
2. Courtesy should never be out of fashion. One thing that seems to be very “out of date” is taking care of yourself and looking your best. Unfortunately, many people today, especially men, seem to be embracing the “grunge” look a little too much.
Shaving, wearing clean attractive clothes that don’t look like you stole them off a homeless person, are just the very minimum of standards you should strive for.
Also, courtesy is as simple as being on time and bringing flowers or possibly some wine if you are having dinner together and can be a great idea.
3. If you can’t make it or you will be late, why not put all those fancy electronics to work for you and call your date to let them know?
It has never been easier to keep in touch so there is no reason why you should not be courteous and call if you have to reschedule or if you will be late.
It is not difficult to maintain the old fashion values that you may want in your dating life. Figure out what you want and find someone who shares similar values as you do and who is looking for similar things in a relationship.
So old fashion dating today is not only very possible, it is also easy to find someone who shares those values with you. All things in dating will be more successful if you find someone who is of a like mind. That is always the best thing to look for in a relationship.
