How to deal with jealousy. Jealousy, also known as the green-eyed monster, is a very strong emotion that has affected most everyone at some point in their lives. If someone is jealous of you it can make you feel superior and to the contrary if you feel jealousy toward someone else then you feel unworthy or inferior.
Sometimes, though, jealous feelings can be turned around and make you strive to do things better in your life. Only very strong people will be able to turn jealous feelings around to something positive. Usually jealous feelings get you nothing but trouble.
So, when learning how to deal with jealousy, remember the golden rule, “Treat others as you would have them treat you.” Being nice to someone is a lot better than feeling intimidated by them or being jealous of them. When you have these negative feelings it feels like you are mired down in the mud and you can’t move on to a better place until you deal with these feelings of negativity. You need to get beyond them to live a productive life.
Hand out the compliments. If you feel the least bit jealous, tell the person that those feelings are directed at that you really like what they are wearing or you like their hair style. compliment whatever it is that is making you jealous and the jealousy will fade away. The object of your jealousy may even be forthcoming as to where they got the dress or who did their hair. You could always emulate them. I believe that is considered the sincerest form of flattery.
Keep it positive. If you feel jealousy rearing it’s ugly head then just take a moment and think about how special you are and the things that you have accomplished in your life. They may be completely different then whomever you are jealous of but they are your accomplishments and therefore no less in importance or meaning. Give yourself a break and be thankful for what you have and are and can be. If you are secure ii n who you are then jealousy will not ever be an issue.
Everyone is different and everyone has different skill sets and things they are good at. You have yours, too. You have just as much value as anyone else in this world. If you value yourself then you will be able to value someone else and what they are capable of. It won’t make you feel like you are not good enough and it may even make you want to get better at some things you may have wanted to work on in your life.
If you or someone you love has learned how to deal with jealousy then things will be much better for them in their life. Jealousy can ruin a person. If you feel inferior to those around you then you are not getting everything you can out of life. Remember that life is not all about the material things you can acquire, it is about love and respect for family and friends.
